When it comes to your GR86 or BRZ the best thing you can do it an ethanol or flex fuel tune! Nothing is required to run e85 aside from a tune, you don’t even need a flex fuel kit! We can set you up with 4 maps for
Pump Gas 91/93 Octane
E50
E75
And full E85!
with a oem car with a e85 map you’ll see about 220 whp if the starting point was 180 whp like on our dyno, with fbo you’ll see about 230 whp! Thats up to 40-50 whp gains!
For those of you wanting more your next option is a turbo kit, either JDL, HKS, Boosted engineerings or P&L are some of the better options depending on your goals.
JDL kit typically make 260 to 280 whp on gas at 6-8 psi with a catted exhaust and 320-380 whp on e85 at 6-10 psi
HKS turbo kits make about 300-320 whp at 10 psi on gas with catted exhaust.
p&l kits make About 330 whp on pump gas at 8-10 psi on e85 up to 600 whp
For E85 on a turbo GR86 1050x injectors are required
In total there have been 5 86 that have blown up after turboing.
The first car was a completed tune, the car was running well, they were on 91 octane. The customer wanted to install a boost controller after being advised to not the they did. I told them to wait to do pulls till I can verify it’s installed correctly and they sent me a 3rd gear 100% throttle pull ignoring the gauge flashing overboost. Proceeded to spin from 30-90 mph hitting a total of 32 psi. The car damaged a piston ring and the customer did a charge back. The car drove to the shop to be repaired as I was attempting to help them fix the issue for as low a cost as possible. They went with another tuner after doing a charge back.
The second car was Chris Borges at 565 whp while racing a hellcat in 5th gear his clutch failed and bouncing off rev limit at high load threw a rod they still beat the hellcat. we changed his rev limit settings a year ago and have not have issues since.
the third car was Austin’s car, at 604 whp again blew up racing a hellcat and again, beating the hellcat. 12k miles of abuse At 604 whp is impressive both Chris and Austin understood the risk.
Nobody has made over 500 whp other that us. There’s a reason for that
The other two are GT86 one was a engine from a crashed car and the oil pump gear broke while daily driving, the other gt86 was racing at 120 mph and with a auto car put into sport mode and manually shifted the car. Upon hitting rev limit and forgetting it was not in auto mode they held the pedal for around 5 seconds at rev limit eventually a rod shot out this was on a car cruise were I was present and watched it happen
we tune hundreds of 86s our goal is for you to get the most enjoyment possible and that means safe fast tunes. Faster isn’t faster. Right is faster.
GR86 DO NOT BLOW UP AT LOW POWER LEVELS. 200-450 whp.
